THE GOD WHO MAKES US SOMEBODY

What if your calling was to be a house help or cleaner? Would it be something you’d accept and do wholeheartedly? Or would you push yourself to be something that society accepts as more purposeful or useful?

Each of us has our assignment that God ordains, but it is up to us to accept His will or to reject it.  Naturally, as humans, we have a dream or vision of who we want to be and what we want to achieve.

The question we should ask ourselves is, are we willing to submit to God’s vision and plan for us?

LET MY WILL BE DONE

Proverbs 19 vs 21 says, “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” This verse perfectly captures a common internal struggle that many believers face: “Is God’s purpose right for me?”

God encourages us to plan our lives because we can’t ask and be given if we do not know what we want. Even as we plan our lives, it is essential to remember that, as believers, we are expected to submit them to God and obey His purpose.

Many believers struggle with trusting God’s plan because they believe that they know better. But how can we, as people, know better than our Creator?

As humans, we are finite, but our Creator is infinite, as He knows both the beginning and the end. How can we develop trust issues with an all-knowing God?

As believers, we know nothing, and God knows everything. Surrendering our desires and plans is a sign of humility and submission, as we believe that God knows what is best for us.

NEW CREATIONS IN CHRIST

2 Corinthians 5 vs 12 says “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” Once we give our lives to Christ, we are new creations. The old, which is the world, is washed away, and we abide by God’s standard.

This new version of us is submitted to God, and the deeper our relationship is with God, the more we begin to emulate Christ. It is similar to the saying “Bad company corrupts good morals.” If bad company can taint good morals, then imagine the significant change that happens when we spend time with God, because He is the best company.

Imagine basking in the counsel of the Holy Spirit throughout that day and meditating on God’s word day and night. This new creation begins with a sole focus on who God is and what His plans are.

Being a new creation means completely submitting to God, no matter what the standard of the world is. The world says, “Love is love,” but Scripture says, “You will love the Lord with all your heart.” The world says, “My body, my choice”, but the Bible says, “Our bodies are temples of the Most High.”

Therefore, as believers, we never conform to the world, but to the Word of God, which is living and active.

A HEART OF SUBMISSION

Knowing that we live for God, we can easily submit to and obey God’s will. For it has never been about what pleases us, but rather about how we can please God, because He loves and cares for us. This is how God makes us somebody; it starts with us submitting to His will.
